My Heart Has An 'Open Door' Policy
My heart has an open door policy meaning you can come in whenever you want. And you can also leave whenever you want!
My heart has an open door policy meaning you can come in whenever you want. And you can also leave whenever you want!
Imagine I invite you over to my place to play. We do some handstands, play some video games, contemplate the nature of reality - the usual. After a while you say, "Micheal, I've really enjoyed hanging out w/ you but I should get going now."
And as soon as you finish your sentence, I place myself between you & the door. I brandish a weapon & I say "No! You can't leave! You have to stay & play with me forever"! 😈
How would that make you feel? You'd probably think I was a psychopath & begin to fear for your safety, right? And the vast majority of you would start devising a plan to escape.
Which is what you should do when someone tries to hold you against your will. Which is why I don't understand why we expect people to be with us forever in relationships.
Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying you can't play with someone forever if that's what you both want. Commitment is making a choice everyday & I think it's really commendable to be committed to someone or something.
All I'm saying is that with me you'll always have the freedom to make a different choice. There will never be a situation where someone wants to leave me & I will try to keep them from doing so. If leaving will make you happy then I will be happy to see you go! And that goes for every kind of relationship I have.
The difference between love & possession is this:
Possession brings appreciation only under the condition of ownership. But true love is appreciation w/o conditions. If I love you, my goal is to liberate you, not to bind you. If I love you, then I will support your growth, even if that means growing away from me. If I say I love you, that means I want to see you happy regardless -
even if I can only witness that happiness from a distance ❤️
